Chesnok Red

We pay homage to Chesnok Red, the most ancient of garlics, from the Caucasus region between the Black and Caspain Seas. This beauty is the great grandparent of all other garlic and will give you the impression of stepping back tousands of years. Not surprisingly, this is probably the most powerful garlic for use in herbal medicine due to its high allicin and alliinase contents (the compounds responsible for garlics health benefits).
 
Considerd to be the sweetest garlic, this beauty has a character that is complex and richly garlicky, without being overly sulfurous. Best for roasting and producing a sweet and exciting sensation on the palate. Great for herbal remedies as well as baking (rich and sweet flavour), stews and raw.
 
You deserve this garlic! there is a reason it has been cultivated for at least 6,000 years. Pedigree: Purple Stripe, Republic of Georgia, brought to Canada in 1985 from Shvelisi.
